50th anniversary of Star Trek

Star Trek premiered on television in the USA in 1966. It followed the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise, as it sought to ‘boldly go where no man has gone before’. Since then, the Star Trek franchise has become a global phenomenon, continuing to inspire legions of “trekkies” around the world.

On 3 May 2016, Australia Post released a series of products to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic original TV series.

The stamp pack, containing 25 special occasion stamps, features fantastic retro imagery as well as vital statistics and background on the series’ best known characters: Captain James T. Kirk, Commander Spock, Lieutenant Commander Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Lieutenant Commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, Lieutenant Uhura, Leiutenant Hikaru Sulu and Ensign Pavel Andreievich Chekov.

Two stamp and coin covers have also been released: a Spock stamp and coin cover, featuring a coin of the elfin-eared part-human, part-Vulcan, and an Enterprise stamp and coin cover, featuring a coin of the infamous starship.
